Welcome!
This space is designed to connect our members, share knowledge, and facilitate support within our unique community.
To ensure a valuable and respectful experience for everyone, please read and adhere to the guidelines in “About this forum”.
(The Established Tribes Community Forum serves several key purposes):
Knowledge Sharing:
It's a central hub for new and experienced members to ask and answer questions related to living accommodation in South Africa, navigating the rental market, utilizing Established Tribes services, and general home-finding tips. Community Support: Foster a supportive environment where members can help each other by sharing experiences, advice, and insights.
Safehouse Day Donations:
This forum is the designated platform for members to request donations of earned safehouse days from fellow members when they are in desperate need of temporary shelter. It allows the community to come together to support those facing immediate housing challenges.
Feedback & Improvement:
A place for members to share constructive feedback about our services, helping us continuously improve the Established Tribes experience.
This forum is the perfect place to ask questions related to:
- Established Tribes Services:
- How to best utilize the curated search feature.
- Understanding the "Continuous Market Insights" and how to apply them.
- General queries about your membership and benefits.
- Accommodation Search & Living in South Africa:
- Questions about specific neighbourhoods or cities (e.g., "What's it like living in [Kempton Park/Pretoria/Cape Town] as a single person?").
- Tips for viewings, negotiating rent, or understanding lease agreements (remember, we don't provide legal advice, but members can share experiences).
- Advice on moving, settling in, or finding amenities in new areas.
- General questions about rental market trends or challenges in South Africa.
- Safehouse Day Requests:
- This is the dedicated channel for members to formally request donations of earned safehouse days. When posting a request, clearly state your situation, how many days you need, and your urgency. This allows potential donors to understand your needs and assess if they can assist. Remember, providing some context can help other members understand your situation better, but always prioritize your personal privacy.
Before you ask - please make sure to search for a similar question. You can search questions by their title or tags. It’s also OK to answer your own question.
Please avoid asking questions that are too subjective and argumentative or not relevant to this community.
To keep the forum constructive and safe, please avoid:
- Asking for Legal or Financial Advice: While general advice is welcome, please do not ask for specific legal interpretations of contracts, tax advice, or investment recommendations. Always consult qualified professionals for such matters.
- Sharing Excessive Personal Information: Do not post your full name, exact address (unless absolutely necessary for a safehouse request and you are comfortable doing so), contact details, or any sensitive financial information.
- Private or Account-Specific Issues: For issues related to your personal membership, billing, or specific safehouse bookings, please contact Established Tribes directly via email or our official support channels, not the public forum.
- Demanding Donations: When requesting safehouse days, articulate your need clearly and respectfully. Do not demand or pressure other members to donate their earned days.
- Harassment or Discrimination: Any questions that are offensive, discriminatory, threatening, or harassing towards individuals or groups will be immediately removed.
- Spam or Self-Promotion: Do not post advertisements for unrelated businesses, products, or services.
- Duplicate Questions: Please use the search function first to see if your question has already been asked and answered.
You should only ask practical, answerable questions based on actual problems that you face. Chatty, open-ended questions diminish the usefulness of this site and push other questions off the front page.
To prevent your question from being flagged and possibly removed, avoid asking subjective questions where …
- every answer is equally valid: “What’s your favorite ______?”
- your answer is provided along with the question, and you expect more answers: “I use ______ for ______, what do you use?”
- there is no actual problem to be solved: “I’m curious if other people feel like I do.”
- we are being asked an open-ended, hypothetical question: “What if ______ happened?”
- it is a rant disguised as a question: “______ sucks, am I right?”
If you fit in one of these example or if your motivation for asking the question is “I would like to participate in a discussion about ______”, then you should not be asking here but on our mailing lists. However, if your motivation is “I would like others to explain ______ to me”, then you are probably OK.

Answers should not start debates This community Q&A is not a discussion group. Please avoid holding debates in your answers as they tend to dilute the essence of questions and answers. For brief discussions please use commenting facility.
When a question or answer is upvoted, the user who posted them will gain some points, which are called "karma points". These points serve as a rough measure of the community trust to him/her. Various moderation tasks are gradually assigned to the users based on those points.
For example, if you ask an interesting question or give a helpful answer, your input will be upvoted. On the other hand if the answer is misleading - it will be downvoted. Each vote in favor will generate 10 points, each vote against will subtract 2 points. There is a limit of 200 points that can be accumulated for a question or answer per day. The table given at the end explains reputation point requirements for each type of moderation task.
For the benefit of the entire community and to maintain a high standard of clarity and readability, Established Tribes reserves the right to allow designated moderators or trusted community members to edit posts (questions and answers) for the following reasons:
- Clarity and Readability: To correct typos, grammatical errors, or improve the phrasing to make your post easier to understand for everyone.
- Formatting: To apply consistent formatting (e.g., bolding, bullet points) to improve visual presentation.
- Removal of Sensitive Information: To redact any inadvertently shared personal or sensitive information that might compromise your privacy or that of others.
- Compliance with Guidelines: To ensure posts adhere to all forum guidelines, removing any inappropriate content, spam, or prohibited advice.
- Improving Searchability: To add relevant tags or keywords that make your post easier to find through the forum's search function.
Our goal in allowing edits is to enhance the overall quality and utility of the forum, not to alter the core meaning of your contribution. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in making this a valuable resource for all Established Tribes members.
The goal of this site is create a relevant knowledge base that would answer questions related to Established Tribes.
Therefore questions and answers can be edited like wiki pages by experienced users of this site in order to improve the overall quality of the knowledge base content. Such privileges are granted based on user karma level: you will be able to do the same once your karma gets high enough.
If this approach is not for you, please respect the community.
